When exploring the forest in Madagascar, you will see orchids growing on the tree trunks, epiphytes, such as the Microcoelia, Aeranthes, Bulbophyllum.
On the ground, the beautiful flowers of the Habenaria, Satyrium, Oeceoclades and the Cynorkis, one of the most terrestrial orchids, will attract your eyes while walking around.There are also orchids climbing like a vine which includes the Vanilla planifolia. This is the one that is used for spices.
As orchids grow in a different condition, sometimes, when climbing up the hill, other species can be found exposing their beautiful flowers on the rocks, one of them is the Aerangis hellsisii.
The different forest types in Madagascar will give you more chance to see more of endemic orchids including the following genera: Cymbidiella, Eulophia, Eulophiella, Gastrorchis, Oeonia, Polystachias, Saturium….
